1.6L turbo 5spd manual, 216K, pwr sunroof, automatic car starter, pwr door locks, pwr windows, cruise control, clarion cd/mp3 player. In good shape. battery and alternator new year ago. 4 studded winter tires on separate rims, summer rims are 15" momo's. Complete parts car included. Needs inspection, which should pass no problem, reason for selling, purchased truck and now have too many vehicles in the yard and something has to go.You won't get stuck with this car in the winter.

Check out those old-school Momo wheels.

I know these are rare as hen's teeth, but does anyone know what I should look for if I go look at this car?

Didn't Lotus tune the suspension on these?

Do it. If nothing else you can flip it for a profit.

Thats a hell of a deal, just look the suspension and drivetrain over, the prices on that stuff are astronomical. A friend of mine used to have one, engine is bomb proof, loads of fun even just for a winter beater. DO IT!

A friend and I were scouring the local pick and pull a few years back and came across one of these, we looked it over and decided that everything looked good. He called pop-a-lock and they cut him a key on the spot, he hooked up a jump-pack and it fired right up. We went into the office and asked how much for the whole car, they said $300. He said OK and they asked where he wanted it towed too, he told them don't worry about and drove it off that day. They weren't to happy about that.

Fun little car. The one he had was a little older though. As I remember, parts are a bitch to find and when you do find them they are kinda pricey.

The look on kids faces in Civics and Integras with fart-can exhausts and huge wings was priceless when they got blown away by an Isuzu.

Of course it's company policy never to, imply ownership in the event of a dildo... always use the indefinite article a dildo, never your dildo.

i would probably do it. a guy at work used to have an NA one. he sold it because the parts to fix anything were crazy expensive and the sunroof flew off on the freeway.

if it comes with the parts car i think it would be fun to have and mess around with.

and yes the suspension was designed by lotus.

a friend's boyfriend was an 'enthusiast' for these... had a couple of the asuna branded examples... seemed fun enough but they had a lot of work done motor-wise.

That looks like it could be a lot of fun and there is a parts car included. If you have the space for both do it; especially for the rarity factor.

I would like to know more about this car and see some more pictures of it when it was new.

There were only ~750 of these ever imported to North America, only about half of that might even still be on the road today.

I had 2 of the XS FWD models, probably one of my favorite cars, it just sucks they always have major rust issues.

Amazing handling for just a little guy, and the 1.6 DOHC Lotus Elan motor is VERY peppy and loves revving out to 7200rpm.

      DOOO EEEEETTT!!!!!

Parts may be a pain to get, but it's a cool car. 160hp in a compact was dang good back then.

And it looks like the AWD allows for drifting.

Yes, body and some of the suspension is different and I think GM dropped the DOHC and used an SOHC 16 or 12 valve.

My 1988 Honda Prelude Si had them.

As as for the Canada only import on the RS model, I have only ever seen 1 in person, and it was from East Coast Canada, in other words it was rusted beyond repair, the dude that had it was trying to swap everything into a cleaner XS model. I think most of them ended up in US.

Power was 150-160 HP I believe.

The three-door hatchback debuted as the Impulse XS in 1989 for the 1990 model year. It was offered only in front-wheel drive with a DOHC 1.6 L (1588 cc) I4 engine which produced 130 hp (97 kW). The suspension consisted of MacPherson struts both front and rear, with a rigid trailing arm front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension, featuring Nishiboric passive steering.

For the 1991 model year, the Impulse RS was introduced with a 160 hp (119 kW) turbocharged engine and all-wheel drive drivetrain which featured front and rear viscous differentials and center helical differential.

Funny you say that. I forget where I heard this but it goes like this: Giugiaro designed the car for Volkswagen to be the Mk2 Scirocco. Volkswagen rejected the design, opting to re-design the Scirocco in-house.

      Isuzu picked up the design.

160hp, according to the specs on Edmunds. This is a very cool car, but parts will be a royal pain.

If you can get it and keep it on the road, make it happen. You might get 99% of the fun and a better experience with a B13 Sentra SE-R.

I haven't been able to check the car out yet because it's 90 minutes away. I contacted the seller and he claims the body is solid and has no rust. I'm seriously considering this, it could make for a fun beater.

Only thing is, I have nowhere to store the parts car.
